OSTEOPATHIC GENERAL SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM
St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center offers an AOA approved 4-year residency in General Surgery (subsequent to completion of an AOA approved internship). The program provides broad exposure to general surgery cases with strong specialty rotations available in vascular, urologic, pediatric, trauma and cardiothoracic surgery.
Didactic programs are based on the newly designed General Surgery curriculum of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and are presented in weekly half-day block sessions along with other periods as scheduled.
The format includes faculty and guest lectures, resident presentations, textbook review using Sabiston 17 th edition, and journal club discussions. Additional conferences such as the weekly Morbidity & Mortality Review and Tumor Conference are also provided. Residents also participate in the statewide RPAC monthly educational seminars.
Out rotations are designed to address specific resident interests. The General Surgery residency is cosponsored by the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. The model General Surgery curriculum is available at the ACOS website.
