Osteopathic Internal Medicine

The program for residency training in Internal Medicine is approved by the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Internists. The program is designed to provide the Osteopathic resident advanced training in Internal Medicine. The goal of the program is to prepare the graduate to be a competent, compassionate, and successful practitioner in the field of Internal Medicine in both the ambulatory and hospital setting. It is expected that the graduate will be adequately prepared to complete the certification examinations by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

Program Overview

The emphasis of the program is a focus on general internal medicine with a well-rounded didactic curriculum as well as osteopathic manipulative medicine. St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center is designated a Level l Trauma Center with four Life Flight helicopters serving the area. The Medical Center has eight intensive care units, a progressive transitional care unit and the region’s largest open heart program. St. Vincent is a 542 bed regional referral center with physicians who provide a wealth of faculty and educational resources with more than 1,100 physicians on staff, representing multiple subspecialty areas.
