How To Apply

Thank you for your interest in our program. This is our most current and up-to-date information regarding our program.

The Emergency Medicine program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This is a computer-based program that enables all application materials to be transmitted and received via the Internet. This system was developed in 1992 under the direction of the American Association of Medical Colleges. Most other specialties (i.e., OB/Gyn, Family Practice, and Radiology) have found that it saves a lot of time for all involved, but especially for medical students. All candidates are selected through the ERAS process.

Your medical school will provide you with all the information. The process is simple: After receiving a token number from your medical school, you will complete your application on-line. All other information is scanned by the dean's office: transcripts, letters of recommendation, personal statements, resumes, NBOME and USMLE board scores, and photographs. Your dean's office will send all this information via the Internet to what is termed the "ERAS Post Office." Each day, programs across the nation will "visit" the ERAS Post Office and download all files addressed to them.

Important to Know

PAPER APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYTHING VIA REGULAR MAIL, EMAIL OR FAX. Our program uses ERAS and will NOT maintain a separate system for paper documents. International medical graduates will apply via the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Canadian applicants will apply via the Canadian Resident Matching Service, and Osteopathic applicants applying to the Emergency Medicine program will use ERAS.

You will receive a "student workstation" kit from your medical school in July. This will include all information about applying via ERAS. Please note that in the past, the ERAS Post Office has not opened until August. Please contact your school for exact dates.

We require four (4) letters of recommendation:
     • Dean's letter with official transcripts
     • Three (3) faculty letters of recommendation (preferably Emergency Medicine
        faculty).
We prefer that candidates use the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD) Standard Letter of Recommendation (SLOR) forms for their Emergency Medicine recommendation letters. These forms can be downloaded from the CORD web site.

The deadline for completed electronic application is December 1 each year.

If you need to speak with the Residency Program Coordinator, Rachel Hill, please leave a message at 419-251-4724.

If you are selected to interview, an EMAIL will be sent to you asking you to contact the Residency office to schedule your interview. Please wait to be contacted. Overnight accommodations are provided at no cost the night before your interview. If not selected for interviews, we will notify you by mail no later than December 1.

Please be patient through any technical difficulties.

Keep current with your email!!
