Welcome to our Internal Medicine Observership Program. The Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program provides experience for individuals wishing to gain U.S. medical exposure.
While observers are not permitted to have direct patient contact, they receive valuable experiences within the clinical environment. Observers will work daily with residents, faculty, and medical students, and are supervised at all times. You will make rounds with residents and faculty and are given an opportunity to participate in scholarly activities.
Observers will not receive academic credit and this experience cannot be used as evidence of clinical experience for the purpose of seeking graduate medical education in the United States.
Our program does not offer externships. Applications are reviewed by the Program Director and has final authority of all observership applications. Foreign graduates must have completed both Step 1 and Step 2 exams. It is also strongly recommended applicants requesting an observership, be registered on ERAS to the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Applicants must meet the following:
* Graduates of non-LCME accredited medical schools;
* Individuals in good standing at a non-ACGME/non-AOA accredited training program;
* Individuals who are applying for an observership from a program or country outside the United States. 1
